Strategic environmental and economic assessments (SEEA)
When agencies and departments submit funding requests and other proposals to Cabinet for consideration, the Cabinet Directive on Strategic Environmental and Economic Assessment (SEEA) requires an assessment of their potential environmental and economic effects. The aim is to minimize harm and maximize benefits for Canadians.
The directive also requires the departments or agencies that conduct such assessments to issue public statements after proposals have been announced or implemented.
